Thanksgiving: We are thankful for so many things. Here are just a few…

wonderful coworkers who are great friends and excellent ministry partners
technology that enables us to keep in contact with several of our teens in the Amazon
safety in travel
the reliable vehicle God provided for our furlough travels
meeting several Brazilian guys here in town
the freedom of worship we have here in the United States

Amazon Update
We really miss the people and the ministry in the Amazon. Continue to pray for our coworkers as they fill in for some of the ministries we were involved in. There are 70-80 teens in the youth group. We have been able to keep up with several of our teens through e-mail and Facebook. Continue to pray for the teens. Some are struggling with sin in their lives; others are growing and faithfully serving God. The congregation in Amaturá is struggling. There is a possibility of a coworker making periodic visits to work with and encourage this group of believers. Pray for a pastor for Amaturá. The Betânia Bible Institute school year generally ends the first week in December and summer break continues until the first week in March. This year classes had to stop in mid-October as no one is available to cover into December. Pray for the students in Betânia to remain faithful in putting into practice what they are learning.

Airplane Fund Update
Since the end of July, when the matching gift fund went in to effect, nearly $43,700 has been donated towards the purchase of an airplane for the Upper Amazon Region of Brazil. With the matching funds, that equals $87,400. We are anxiously looking forward to having this tool available to use in ministry. As a reminder, there is a donor who will match all funds, up to $50,000, that are received by December 31, 2011. Please pray with us for the remaining $6,300 so that the full value of the matching gift can be realized.

Monthly Support Update
A need that we want to keep you aware of is the shortfall in our monthly support. This deficit has come about because of an increase in insurance premiums, support that has been dropped or lowered because of the economy, an increase in administrative costs, devaluation of the dollar, increased cost of living, and a raise (the first in five years).

We are always careful not to overspend our funds, and while things have been tight, God has faithfully provided for our needs. When we started our furlough, Missionary Finance calculated that we needed to raise $1,562 in monthly support before financial clearance to return to Brazil will be granted. In all honesty, that figure initially took our breath away. However, we are leaving this in God’s hands knowing that nothing is too difficult for Him. God is already showing Himself at work. A supporting church and an individual donor have increased their monthly support. Three new individual donors have joined our support team and there is the possibility of two other supporting churches increasing their monthly giving. Please pray with us for the need of an additional $1,412 in monthly support.

We know $1,400 is a lot of money, but if 70 people were to commit to give $20 a month, that goal would be reached. While it may seem impossible to come up with an extra $20 a month to give, in many cases, giving up one meal out a month would cover this. 140 people giving $10 a month would get us to our goal. For coffee drinkers, that money might come from giving up one Starbuck’s coffee a week. 57 people giving $25 a month would get us to our goal. Or 29 people giving $50 a month…you get the idea. Think of what you are investing in missions as an investment in eternity!
