Dear Trinity Baptist Church Family, Psalm 146 Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul! 2 While I live I will praise the Lord; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being. 3 Do not put your trust in princes, Nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help. 4 His spirit departs, he returns to his earth; In that very day his plans perish. 5 Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, Whose hope is in the Lord his God, 6 Who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them; Who keeps truth forever, 7 Who executes justice for the oppressed, Who gives food to the hungry. The Lord gives freedom to the prisoners. 8 The Lord opens the eyes of the blind; The Lord raises those who are bowed down; The Lord loves the righteous. 9 The Lord watches over the strangers; He relieves the fatherless and widow; But the way of the wicked He turns upside down. 10 The Lord shall reign forever— Your God, O Zion, to all generations. Praise the Lord!
What a practical and encouraging psalm for me today! Note we are commanded to praise. See that we cannot trust humanity. Know that God is Creator and that He is just and cares for the hurting. Then note that God loves the righteous. If you skipped over the psalm – like I sometimes do – go back and read it slowly. Marvel at how much it applies to us today.
I have not forwarded a lot of news concerning Lola or myself, because there is not really new news. Lola’s wound continues to be cleaned and rid of bacteria. It is hoped that they will soon be ready to do necessary plastic surgery. They are encouraged by many signs of healing. I had a scan on Friday and will have a biopsy Monday morning. I am feeling fine. It is still assumed that I will begin chemo at some point in the near future. Jean has gained strength since her heart surgery. Last I heard Bonnie was in the hospital.
The children of Ross and Carol Purcell are holding a Celebration of Life at Taylor Park at 1:00 p.m. You are invited. I will speak and SCAMP will play.
We are in fall Sunday School series. Charlie is teaching on Angels, Demons, and Spiritual Warfare. I am doing a deeper look at the topics currently being covered by Here a Little. I have attached the lesson for next week.
We begin our walk through 1 Peter this Sunday morning. On Sunday evening we are in for a real treat. Pastor Bill Walker, a friend of Gary Heinz, will be preaching. I got to meet this good man at our Men for Christ Bible study this past Tuesday morning. I am refreshed by his person and know you will benefit from his ministry.
Pray for one another. Love one another. Praise God.
Embracing Truth, Pastor
