Dear Trinity Baptist Church Family: Talk about big shoes to fill. Joshua was called to step into Moses’ role. Moses: the man who stood up to Pharaoh, the guy who brought frogs out of the Nile, the one who divided the Red Sea, the one who spoke with God as a man speaks with a man. And now Joshua was being asked to take his place and bring Israel to a new land. Was he intimidated by his future? I would be. So the LORD said to Joshua, “Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.” Joshua 1:7
Are we a bit intimidated by our future? What is going to happen to the economy? Who may lose their job? What will our church and ministry look like when this is over? How many more people will get sick in Wisconsin? Are we even getting accurate information and making wise decisions in all of this? I believe God would tell us what He said to Joshua: “Be strong and very courageous. Do not turn from God’s commands to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.”
I was blessed by the excellent ministry of Pastor Shaeffer last evening. (It was a bit weird listening to the Word from my easy chair.) As he prayed I was reminded that private prayer is one part of our Christian experience that has not been hindered in the least by all this change. We ought to pray.
