Dear Trinity Baptist Church Family, Today is Gramma Curtis’ birthday. She’s been in heaven for over 20 years. She was born Esther Corlena Graham on October 17, 1910. It is from my mom’s mom that I inherited my love for cooking. I used to think it was funny to see her READING cook books like other people read regular books. Now I look forward to winter evenings when I feel like I don’t have to do anything, but to think about cooking. Gramma like to go out to eat and she loved to try new food.
Gramma Curtis was passionate about family, especially her boys. As the oldest grandson and living down the block from gramma, I was included in the specialized treatment reserved for her boys. By the time I had my driver’s license, she didn’t have hers. She’d make a date with me and we’d be off shopping for one or two little things she wanted. And then would come the big decision, where would we eat?!! We didn’t have a TV at our house, so I’d often go to Gramma’s and she’d feed me her leftovers.
Gramma Curtis was also passionate about God’s house. She was reared in the home of a Baptist deacon. She played the piano badly and typed with lots of errors, but many is the bulletin and congregational song that came from her fingers. She loved preachers, especially Grampa, dad, and me. She loved ladies’ meetings and prayer meetings. She never did understand why some people don’t like being in church.
Pastor Shaeffer made me think about how rich I was to know grandparents when he was talking to our high school on Grandparent’s Day. If you are over the age of 50, don’t avoid the children! They may run and make noise and seem not to care about you, but you are being watched. And someday, like me, they will note things in their life that are because of you.
Senior Lunch and Bible study is tomorrow at Rolling Meadows. We will order off the menu at noon and then continue our study in Colossians after lunch. Bring a friend and come for the fellowship.
This Wednesday is the Awana Pie Auction. It will begin at 7:00 p.m. We will have a greatly shortened Awana Club at 6:30 p.m. Our proceeds this year will be divided between our Awana and the ministry of Missionary Coolbaugh.
