Dear Trinity Baptist Church Family: I do not like change, unless of course I think of it first and initiate it. Then change is OK. Today, we hear talk about a “new normal.” I, for one, don’t like the idea. It is scary to think who might be defining the “new normal.” I’m pretty sure I don’t trust whoever it is. Do you know that God has a new normal planned for Christians? Revelation 21:1, 5 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 5 Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.” All things new. That’s a bit scary to me. A part of me wants veto power. But it does not work that way. Today, and in the coming Eternal Kingdom, God is in control and the changes He brings to each of my days I am to receive with thanksgiving.
“All things new” is a good description of what happened in the Shaeffer home yesterday. The adoption is final. The Shaeffers now have 6 children! About 60 friends, family, and fellow members of Trinity Baptist joined together in the City/County parking lot on Macy Street to celebrate the new names given to Taven, Sophia, and Kinley. It was a Woohoo event. Praise God!
Lin and I are joining her family for a brief committal service for Carol Purcell today at Estabrook Cemetery at 11:00 a.m.
Tonight is Awana Drive By. Between 5:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., Club leaders will be standing in the parking lot of the church to welcome cars containing clubbers. Clubbers and families should stay in their cars. Books will be checked by leaders. A gift will be ready for each clubber with a letter talking about Grand Prix, VBS (God’s Zoo), and Awana Awards on September 2nd.
Charlie will be live-streaming a bible study from Genesis 3 on our Facebook page at 7:00 p.m. If you have prayer requests, you could reply to this email early today, send them to him, or post them in comments during the Bible study for others who are watching to see. I have attached his outline of Genesis 1-11.
It’s not too late to get a card in the mail for Mom.
