Dear Trinity Baptist Church Family: Christians call today Good Friday. It is only good because believers know the good that comes from the work Jesus did for us in His death. The end of the story lets us call this very ugly day “good.”
Jeremiah was telling Jerusalem that they were being delivered into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar. They were going to be captives in Babylon. What were they supposed to think while they were in captivity? Jeremiah 46:27-28 “But do not fear, O My servant Jacob, and do not be dismayed, O Israel! For behold, I will save you from afar, and your offspring from the land of their captivity; Jacob shall return, have rest and be at ease; no one shall make him afraid. 28 Do not fear, O Jacob My servant,” says the Lord, “For I am with you; for I will make a complete end of all the nations to which I have driven you, but I will not make a complete end of you. I will rightly correct you, for I will not leave you wholly unpunished.” God tells Israel they do not need to fear for themselves or their children. He says He is correcting them and will save them from their captivity.
If we believe the work of Jesus on “Good Friday” to be a blessing to us, then we need to understand that God’s corrections of our world are also “good.” And we can rest knowing that God saves us.
I have attached notes for Sunday morning. I encourage you to print them off to aid your family’s listening. Bulletins will be in the boxes at church later today. I continue to rejoice in the many ways our church continues to be the body of Christ. Pray for one another.
