Caleb Stein shares an urgent prayer request

The Steins – who have twice presented their ministry at TBC – bring this request.
Pray for Peru
God sent a drought in Elijah’s day to prove that He is the only true God. After 3 1/2 years Elijah fervently prayed for God to end that drought and reveal His power. This was a devastating drought. In this distressing time Elijah prayed to God. Only God could intervene and make things right. Only God was powerful enough to answer this prayer.

In July 2011 the government of Peru passed a law stating that in order to be legally registered mission organization a religious group must have 10,000 adult members. This law appears contrary to the religious freedoms guaranteed by Peru’s constitution. Due to objection from several religious groups, Peru’s president is considering an amendment to this new law.

Please pray that Ollanta Humala, the president of Peru, will sign and amendment that would allow foreign mission boards not to have a minimum number of members. Another possibility is that he signs another amendment requiring only 150 adult members. If he does not sign one of these modifications, then after January 19, 2013, we will not be able to renew or request new annual visa cards unless we get the minimum number of members. At this point we believe there would be serious ramifications to our ministry opportunities if this law passes unchanged.

This is an urgent matter of prayer. We recognize that we are helpless apart from God’s intervention. Pray that God’s will would be done and that He will glorify His name in Peru. Pray that He will continue to keep the doors open for foreign missionaries, if that is His will. Pray for our mission team as they attempt to renew visas and re-register our mission agency before the new law goes into effect. Pray for the protection of our properties and vehicles during this transition.

Our prayer is that God’s work continues unhindered in Peru. Please pray with us for this urgent request.

Thank you for your faithful prayers for us and for Peru.
Until all have heard,
Caleb, Ecko, Joe, Jack, Isabel, and Isaac Stein
