Alijah

I had one of those – “thanks, God, I didn’t deserve that, but it was sure nice” moments last night. It was pie auction night at Awana, which means everything is quicker. So I had 10 minutes to preach in council time. I am in 1 Samuel, telling the stories of Saul and David. Last night I described the encounter between David and Saul in the cave at En Gedi when David cut off part of Saul’s robe as Saul was in the cave to “care for his needs.” I was wrapping it up and making application when Alijah raised his hand. Realizing I was done telling God’s story for the night he said, “Can you tell us more?” It was almost enough to make this preacher cry – almost.

Alijah is a neighbor and buddy of one of our church family’s sons. He has been coming all fall and about 3 weeks ago his buddy and Alijah were praying together after Awana. It was so cute. They were so sincere. Afterwards his buddy brings Alijah up to me so they can tell me that Alijah had just received Christ. So he prayed a salvation prayer AND now he wants to hear more of God’s story.

This has got to make you smile – if you love Jesus.
