We have arrived safely in Nicaragua and after a good night’s sleep, we got right to work. Saturday morning was spent preparing for ministry throughout the week. We learned a puppet show, some Spanish songs, and how to make balloon animals. Of course in the mean time, we also learned much about our hosts and Nicaragua through conversations with the Woughter’s and other missionaries here at the center. Saturday afternoon was spent in La Concha putting up plastic around people’s homes to keep out the rain and practicing some of our newly learned skills. Jeremy enjoyed every opportunity to practice his Spanish especially with the gracious Pastor Luis, while Pastor Rory and Ted enjoyed picking fresh avocados. Sunday will bring church in La Conchs, with ministry opportunities to kids in particular, then lunch at the mall where we will have to order without help of a translator. Thank you for your prayers. We will give another update on Wednesday evening.
This is going to be a long one since we haven’t posted an update in a month concerning the Nicaragua Trip fundraising, but read to the end because God has continued to show us his gracious provision over the last month. The last time I posted an update, our fundraising stood at 70%. Over the past month we have seen a steady trickle of money from support letters sent out to family and friends. By the middle of May we entered our Spaghetti Cookoff fundraiser with 75% of the funds raised and then the people of Trinity Baptist Church blessed us again with a nearly $600 day. With the other designated gifts that came in that Sunday, we stood at 80%. Then God continued to allow the money to flow in. Over the past two weeks we have seen another 5% of the money come in and when we entered this weekend we saw our support at just above $2,000 needed to meet our fundraising goal. Then we had our brat fray at Festival. Through the support of many friends and our community, we were able to raise over $1,200 towards our trip. We now need just over $800 to fully fund our trip and we have another month of fundraising to go! God has made his gracious generosity known in some powerful ways over the past several months. He has reminded me time and again that physical needs are not a problem for him. We rejoice in his unmerited kindness to us that has seen these fundraising efforts reap such bountiful returns. Let me ask you to continue to pray and give. While we could have our trip fully funded with only $800 more, we would like to be able to bring a gift of some sort to the church planters in Nicaragua. Any amount would be appreciated, but if we can raise more than just our bare minimum, we could take that extra amount to those church planters and encourage financially as well as spiritually and physically. Please continue to pray what God would have you to give to our trip as we have an offering next week and a little over one month until we leave. Thanks again for all those who have so generously given.
Thanks to everyone who came out to the Pizza Ranch last night. We had a fantastic time there, and we did a great job of packing the place. The manager last night told me that we did a great job advertising since she expected to have a much smaller turnout! We brought in nearly $1,000 of business to the Pizza Ranch and they wrote us a check for $200, and we had $140 more in tips thanks to the generosity of all of you! In our first fundraiser at the Pizza Ranch we brought in about $160, so we more than doubled our profits from last time. God showed his goodness yet again, and he did it through all of you and your tremendous generosity. Thank you to everyone who made this great night possible!
Our trip to Nicaragua now has a page on the site and a Facebook page. Please head on over to Facebook to like our page and visit our page here on the website to donate to the trip. We are excited about the progress we are making already toward our fundraising goal, but we need your help. On both our site page and our Facebook page you can keep up to date weekly with our fundraising progress. We need you and your prayers for this to be a success!
